Meridian MD review

by Meridian Health

The only prescription service we tested where a clinician actually reviewed our intake before writing anything, and the only one that volunteered a taper plan without being asked. It is not cheap and the pricing page buries the post-promotional rate, but the medicine is FDA-approved and the oversight is real.

Tom’s verdict

If you are going to do this, do it with supervision like this. Meridian MD is the closest thing in the category to what the trials actually studied: an approved drug, titrated slowly, with a clinician watching. My reservation is entirely about the pricing presentation — the number you see first is not the number you pay from month two, and that is a choice they made. Go in knowing the real figure and it is the strongest product on this site.

What we liked and what we didn’t

Strengths

  • Board-certified clinician reviewed the intake form before prescribing, and asked a follow-up question we had deliberately left ambiguous
  • Prescribes FDA-approved branded medication rather than compounded semaglutide
  • Side effect check-ins at week 2, 6 and 12 without us initiating them
  • Discussed what happens after you stop — the question most programmes dodge
  • Cancellation is two clicks in account settings, no retention call

Problems

  • The $299 ongoing rate is disclosed only after you complete the intake
  • Medication cost sits on top and can double the monthly total without coverage
  • No nutrition or strength-training support included, which matters for preserving lean mass
  • Waitlist ran three weeks in two of the states we checked

Best for

People who have already decided with a doctor that a GLP-1 is appropriate and want a service that will actually monitor them.

Not for

Anyone shopping on price, or hoping to avoid a real medical conversation about their history.

What the evidence actually shows

The underlying medication class has multiple large randomised controlled trials behind it, published in peer-reviewed journals, with mean weight loss figures that are genuinely substantial. That evidence belongs to the drug, not to Meridian MD. What we are scoring here is whether the service delivers that drug the way the trials did — supervised, titrated, with monitoring — and it largely does.

What you actually get

The intake is long. It took us about twenty-five minutes and asked for a full medication list, personal and family history including thyroid cancer and pancreatitis, and a set of questions about disordered eating that we have not seen any competitor ask.

That last part matters more than it sounds. Appetite-suppressing medication in someone with an active restrictive eating disorder is a serious risk, and Meridian MD is the only service we looked at that screened for it properly rather than as a box-tick.

The pricing problem

The homepage leads with $149. That is month one. From month two you pay $299 for the programme, and the medication itself is billed separately — through your insurance if it covers it, and out of pocket if it does not.

We are docking value points for this. Nothing here is hidden in a way that would be actionable, but the structure is clearly designed so that you have invested twenty-five minutes in an intake form before you see the real number. A confident product would lead with it.

What happens when you stop

Weight regain after discontinuing GLP-1 medication is well documented in the literature, and most people are not told this before they start. Meridian MD raised it during our week-six check-in without prompting, and offered a structured taper with nutrition support attached.

This is the single thing that moved our score most. A programme that plans for the exit is treating you as a patient rather than a subscription.
