Tom’s Weight LossRankings

Affiliate disclosure

We earn money when you buy through some of the links on this site. Here is precisely how that works, what it does and does not influence, and how to tell the difference on any given page.

The short version

Tom's Weight Loss Rankings is reader-supported through affiliate commissions. When you click certain links on this site and go on to buy something, the seller pays us a percentage of the sale. It costs you nothing extra — you pay the same price you would have paid going direct.

This disclosure is made in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255), which require that material connections between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously.

Where you will see this disclosed

We deliberately disclose in more places than the minimum, because a disclosure you did not see is not a disclosure:

  • A permanent strip at the top of every page on the site, above the navigation.
  • A disclosure block near the top of every individual review, before any buy link appears.
  • A label directly beneath every single outbound commercial link, stating whether that specific link pays us.
  • A summary in the footer of every page.

Outbound commercial links are also tagged with rel="sponsored nofollow" so that search engines can identify them as paid placements.

Which products pay us right now

Of the 12 products currently reviewed on this site, 7 have an affiliate relationship with us and 5 do not. You can see this per product in the “We’re paid” column of the comparison table, and in the “At a glance” box on every review.

Products we currently earn commission on:

Products we earn nothing from:

This list changes as programmes open, close, or are dropped. It is generated directly from the same data that drives the reviews, so it cannot fall out of sync with what the review pages say.

What commissions do not affect

These are the rules we hold ourselves to:

  • Scores are set before money is discussed. A product is tested and scored against the published rubric before any commercial relationship is explored.
  • Commission rate is not a ranking factor. Position on the rankings page is derived arithmetically from the overall score. It is never set by hand.
  • We do not sell placement, reviews, or scores. No sponsored posts, no paid inclusion, no “featured” slots, and no arrangement in which a company pays for coverage.
  • We do not affiliate with products we recommend against. Every product in our lowest scoring band carries no buy link and earns us nothing, and we decline affiliate offers from those companies.
  • A downgrade drops the relationship, not the review. If a product we earn from gets worse, the score changes and the affiliate relationship is what gets cut.
  • We buy what we test. No free samples, no press units, no complimentary subscriptions.

What this means for you practically

You should read any affiliate site — including this one — with the commercial incentive in mind. That is the point of disclosure. What we can offer in return is a published method you can check our work against, a per-link label so you always know which recommendations pay us, and a body of reviews that includes products we make nothing from and products we tell you not to buy.

If you would rather we did not earn anything, that is entirely reasonable: search for the product name directly rather than using our links. The reviews are free either way and nothing on this site is gated.

Affiliate networks and tracking

Affiliate links typically work by setting a cookie in your browser, or appending a tracking identifier to the destination URL, so that the seller can attribute a later purchase to us. That tracking is operated by the seller and their affiliate network, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policies rather than ours.

We describe this further in our cookie policy and privacy policy. We do not receive your name, payment details, or order contents from these networks — typically we see only aggregate reporting of clicks and completed sales.

Advertising and other revenue

At the time of writing, affiliate commission is our only source of revenue. We do not run display advertising, sell newsletter placements, or accept sponsorship. If that changes, this page will be updated before the change goes live, and the change will be noted here.

Results are not typical or guaranteed

Nothing on this site should be read as a promise about what a product will do for you. Weight loss outcomes vary enormously between individuals, and where we describe research findings those are averages drawn from study populations that may not resemble you. See our medical disclaimer for the full statement.

Questions or complaints

If you think we have failed to disclose something properly, or that a review reads as though it were influenced by a commercial relationship, tell us at corrections@tomsweightlossrankings.com. We take that seriously, because this disclosure is the only thing making the rest of the site worth reading.
